The Australian Federal Government is currently looking at amending the Safeguard Mechanism to help industry reduce emissions in line with Australia’s legislated climate targets.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water released a consultation paper in August 2022 on potential reforms to the mechanism.

Engevity Advisory is pleased to have assisted the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) as Technical Advisors as part of its assessment of Western Power’s actual capital expenditure for the current regulatory period (AA4), and proposed capital and operating expenditure for the next five years (AA5).

ERA Chair Steve Edwell said “the access arrangement was reviewed with the intent of ensuring that customers are not exposed to excessive costs and risks. This was balanced with the need to enable Western Power to fulfil its role in supporting the energy sector’s transformation over the next few years."
